Ahh no. Actually having a backup *is* seriously impressive, and shows great preparation and discipline.
I remember a presentation from a CEO of a major database company (the largest basically – you know who they are, and you know who I’m talking about) at their annual trade show back in ’97, where he had 4 things to show, and 3 (!) of them broke.
Trust me, when the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company can’t demo something without having a backup it’s not a good look. Particularly a database company who built their business on data protection and arcane stuff like “point-in-time recovery”
What this little incident says to me is that a consumer company like Apple are far more careful and more deserving of my trust than that other mob who are in the enterprise world.

I think the single most impressive demonstration of the Reality Distortion Field is that Jobs et al were *so sure* that their software would crash, that they had another system as a hot backup on the KVM, and when he told the audience this, he got a *round of applause*.
If that happened in a Microsoft demo, the Apple geeks would be “Haha! Nyaah nyaah! Buggy Microsoft crap! Sucky sucky! Hey! Who changed my CPU?! Whoah! Is that Half-Life 2?”
